Die Line Removal

Die lines are often unavoidable in metal casting. In areas such as the aerospace and marine engine industry, these faults are not acceptable due to the need for a perfectly smooth flow path. Here, the robot makes precise contact measurements of the line’s location. With a measurement repeatability of less than 10 microns, the robot can generate a stroke that will never skip or flatten critical geometry.

The following video shows loading the part in a quick-load fixture and machining away die lines. The robot touches off on various parts of the blade and removes die lines on both the leading and trailing edges. The process is quick, safe, and efficient.
